What is IEEE?

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world's largest technical professional society with 1,860 local chapters and more than 375,000 in more than 160 countries around the world. There are 80,000 student members and 1,789 student branches in 80 countries. The technical objective of the IEEE is to focus on advancing the theory and practice of electrical, electronics and computer engineering and computer science for the benefit of humanity.

To realize these objectives, the IEEE sponsors nearly its Student branches worldwide, as well as scholarships and awareness programs, technical conferences, symposia and local meetings; publishes 25% of world's technical papers in electrical, electronics and computer engineering; and provides educational programs to keep its members' knowledge and expertise state-of-the-art. IEEE members can take advantage of the more than 2 million documents in the IEEE/IET Electronic Library.

Our Chapter

Drexel University's chapter is one of the largest by membership in the United States. We are focused on providing students with academic assistance and sponsoring events that promote the IEEE related technical fields. Drexel IEEE also acts as a liason with the ECE department to help students and faculty communicate through events such as the quarterly ECE dialogue and biannual ECE Track Forum. Drexel IEEE also hosts fun activities like movie nights, game nights and bowling nights. Board meetings are held by IEEE officers every week to plan and discuss future events and activites at the IEEE office (Bossone 301).
