Bio*Nano-biotechnology:
Dr. Pourrezaei is leading the research activity that is enabling nanotechnology to merge with biomedical applications. The three major thrust areas identified at Drexel University include biosensors, drug delivery, and tissue engineering. These activities are being funded by a $10.5 million research grant from the State of Pennsylvania, while support from the region's pharmaceutical companies is also energizing this research. Collaborators from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems include Dr. Ryzard Lec, Dr. Peter Lelkes, and Dr. Margaret Wheatley.

*Bio-optics:
Dr. Pourrezaei is also leading the research activity in the area of bio-optics. Currently, a near infrared (NIR) modality is being utilized for monitoring breast cancer and brain activities. The projects are being funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Collaborators from the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems include Dr. Ata Akin and Dr. Banu Onaral.
