    Electrical and Computer Engineering Department

    In Memoriam
    Stanislav B. Kesler
    Associate Professor

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Stan Kesler, who was a kind, dedicated and beloved member of our Department and a highly valued friend and colleague. Stan was an excellent teacher and scholar who was well-respected and liked by the entire university community. Stan was highly committed to teaching and his students. Stan taught over 3 dozen courses in communications, signal processing and systems during his tenure at Drexel. This is an impressive number of courses for a faculty member to teach. He also contributed greatly to the development and revision of many courses. One clear example of Stan's extreme dedication to teaching and his students is that during the past Spring term when he was on family medical leave as he was battling with cancer Stan insisted to be involved in teaching the 3rd course in the communications sequence. He worked with Dr. Jaudelice de Oliveira to help her teach the course and greatly enjoyed it. I am glad I let him assist with the teaching since that made Stan feel good and boosted his morale. This was during the critical phase of his recovery from his last cancer treatment. But, to Stan his students and teaching responsibilities came first! Since I review all the course surveys, I can attest that his students truly appreciated him. He was also highly appreciated and liked by our faculty and staff.

Stan received his Ph.D. in 1977 from McMaster University in Canada working with Dr. Simon Haykin , who is one of the most well-known communications experts in the world. Stan's scholarly work in the areas of communications and signal processing is frequently used by researchers nationally and internationally. He supervised 8 Ph.D. and 12 Masters students to completion during his tenure at Drexel. With his passing, we have a lost a highly valued member of the department. He will be dearly missed.

Stan was a dear friend to me and I have many fond memories of Stan spanning the last 24 years. He has a special place in my heart. Stan and I arrived at Drexel about the same time. He came in 1982, a year after me. Therefore, we shared many experiences and memories going back to our early years together at Drexel.

There is no doubt that we are all fortunate and highly privileged to have known Stan, who enriched our lives. It is impossible for us to avoid the heartache and pain of not having him with us anymore, but we must also celebrate his accomplishments and contributions that have enriched so many lives and brought so much joy to all of us over the years.

We have all lost a very dear friend and a highly respected colleague. It will be very difficult and painful not to have our beloved Stan with us anymore, but his memory will continue to live in our hearts and minds. We at Drexel miss him dearly, along with hundreds of former students across the world that he educated and mentored during his 24 years at Drexel.

I express my deepest sympathy to Stan's family members for this great loss. May he rest in peace.

From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely express my deepest sympathy in the sad death of Dr. Stan Kesler to Dr. Stanislav's family, the ECE Department family and all of Drexel University. Words fail in such a trying time. Everyone who knew him is sharing sorrow to his family, the ECE Department and Drexel University. Dr. Kesler was my Ph.D. supervisor from 1985-1990. He was a very sincere man with a kind heart. He has left an ever-lasting impresesion upon all of us. I ask Allah to have mercy and peace upon Dr. Stan Kesler. May Allah bless his soul.
